UIS GSSS (LGBTQIA+) Involvement Form
1. How would you like to be involved at UIS with GSSS?
Fall Student Mentor Program: Develop a network of friends at UIS. Learn about campus resources. The mentor program is for LGBTQ and allied first year, transfer, and new graduate students who are paired with returning UIS students. Members attend group social events and discussions.
Explore Yourself in a Private Place: A safe & confidential group to share coming out stories, explore your identity, and listen to other UIS students
LGBTea: A comfortable, accepting, & non-judgemental social atmosphere for LBGTQA students.
Queertober: A month long celebration during the month of October that features educational and informative events raising awareness for the LGBTQA communities.
Day of Silence: A day where students nationwide take some form of a vow of silence to call attention to the silencing effect of anti-LGBTQ bullying and harassment.
Inqueery Peer Education: Students are trained to interact with their peers to combat homophobia, transphobia, and heterosexism through innovative activities and workshops.
QSA (Queer Straight Alliance): A student organization that plans events for the LGBTQA student body. They also provide support and visibility for LGBTQA students on campus.
Safe Zone: A training program for students, staff, and faculty to be better allies to the LGBTQ community at UIS. Members hang signs their doors and work to provide a space that is free from homophobia, heterosexism, and transphobia while serving as a resource to LGBTQ and allied students.
