Odyssey Project Summer 2022 Writing Workshop

Writing for Discovery: Self, Public, and Community

The Odyssey Project offers free college courses in art history, philosophy, literature, US history, and critical thinking and writing for adults through the University of Illinois. This special summer writing workshop is a non-credit-bearing course suitable for adults of all ages who meet its eligibility guidelines.

About the Workshop

Taught by poet and professor, Ángel García, this workshop seeks to amplify the voices of students by creating a space for them to explore issues relevant to their lived experience in Champaign-Urbana and surrounding communities. Through their writing, students will refine their understanding of how local issues affect them and practice expressing their ideas to both private and public audiences. Following the four-week workshop, participants will have the opportunity to share their work with their local community through a public reading.

The workshop will run from June 15, 2022-July 6, 2022, and meet once per week on Wednesdays from 5:45 PM-7:45 PM at the Douglass Branch Library (504 Grove St., Champaign, IL 61820).
