Necessary Steps Mentoring Program Application 2022-2023 AY

We are writing to inform of an opportunity that might be beneficial to your college experience at The University of Illinois Springfield (UIS). The Necessary Steps Mentoring Program (NSMP) was designed to help transition first-generation students to the challenges and demands of college life.  By definition, a first-generation college student is any student whose parents/guardians have not graduated with a baccalaureate degree from a four-year college or university. Here at UIS, the NSMP has been able to be a support and outreach service for ALL STUDENTS, which has helped in the areas of retention and graduation for the university as a whole.
Criteria: If you would like to be part of the program, here are the following requirements: 1) Must self- identify as a first-generation college student; 2) Must be a first-time freshman, or under 30 university credit hours. 3) Must have a composite ACT score of 19 or above/SAT of 990 or above; 4) Must agree to live on the NSMP Living-Learning Community Floor; 5) Must enroll in the NSMP the university seminar course.
