Waste Transfer Station Recycling Tour

The University of Illinois recycles more than 4 million pounds of materials annually from the Urbana Campus.

Getting There: The Waste Transfer Station is located at 10 St. Mary's Road in Champaign. 

Bus: Take the MTD Yellow/Yellow Hopper to Lot E14 west of State Farm Center. From the bus stop walk west to Oak St. then one block south to St. Mary's. Turn right/west. The facility entrance is the first driveway one block west on your right.

Bike: Bike parking is available on the east side of the site.

Car: Please car pool if possible as parking is limited at the facility. Please park facing the east fence as far from the entrance as possible to allow trucks to enter and exit freely.

Academic Classes: If you are a faculty member needing to schedule a tour during your regular class meeting time, please note this in the "Additional Information" box at the end of the survey.

Media / Interview Requests: If you are requesting an interview, please complete this form whether or not you require a tour. Please be sure to include the name of your organization or class, your deadline, and the general nature of your article in the "Additional Information" box at the end of the survey.

Please note the following Tour Policies:

  • Tours are limited to 20 people on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Children must be at least 8 yrs old to tour. One adult must accompany every four children between the ages of 8 and 16.
  • Tours are arranged, as needed, depending on the number of requests in the queue.
  • Required visitor attire: Close-toe shoes. Please wear clothes that can get dirty.
